PISCATAWAY – Chris Ash is eagerly awaiting the start of Rutgers spring camp not just because it has been 104 days since the team’s last game.
To whet the appetite, Ash had a large portion of his returning players on the sidelines Friday at Rutgers Pro Day, with 12 former Scarlet Knights auditioning for 23 NFL representatives.
“We talk about Plan A and Plan B,” Ash said.
Rutgers opens spring practice on March 22 with a quarterback battle … under its eighth different offensive coordinator in eight years … and with holes to fill on both sides of the line of scrimmage … coming off a 2-10 season with nine straight losses.
“We’re a lot further ahead,” Ash said.
A year ago, Ash made a brief pitstop at a Pro Day as the final senior class of the Kyle Flood era ran through drills.
“It’s just a great day for the players,” Ash said.
“You talk to a lot of them throughout the year when they come in,” Ash said.
“It’s been a long offseason,” Ash said.
