When HBO’s offense drama True Detective ended its third episode having an extreme foot chase across a La freeway many viewers wondered if the show was looking to recapture the glory of Cary Fukunaga’s much-discussed five-minute-long take from Season 1.
The scene was so extreme that star Rachel McAdams told Variety she tossed her cookies through the filming.
“That was quite extreme. I actually puked during that scene. When I had been running and reloading my gun-it really wound up being about 200 yards, it was like two football fields-and I was only going all out and we did it a couple of times.” Unlike Fukunaga’s activity -set piece, which crossed the length of an area, Podeswa’s shoot-out involved a great deal of intensive crouching from McAdams and centered around one building.
When you factor in take after take after take, well, no wonder this component appeared so realistic.
It wasn’t merely the running that did McAdams in.
Judging by the previews, the next episode of True Detective takes an important time leap, with Ray’s mustache gone and Ani demoted down to beat cop.
