Godwin’s announcement comes just a day after defensive end Garrett Sickels became the second Lions player to declare for the draft.

He ranks fourth all time among Penn State players with 2,421 receiving yards and seventh with 154 receptions.

His 18 receiving touchdowns are tied for fourth in program history.

“Chris has been a leader in our wide receivers’ room and on this team throughout his Penn State career,” said Penn State head coach James Franklin in a statement.

“He is one of the top receivers in Penn State history and has made numerous memorable catches throughout his career. We are thankful for all of Chris’ contributions to Penn State Football and look forward to seeing him excel on the next level.”

Godwin’s departure leaves the Lions with a few options to replace their top target; he led the team with 59 receptions and 11 receiving touchdowns in 2016.

Saeed Blacknall, who was suspended for the Rose Bowl by coach James Franklin for an unspecified reason, could replace Godwin as the No. 1 with DaeSean Hamilton remaining as the slot receiver.

Tight end Mike Gesicki, who ranked second behind Godwin with 48 catches this year, could also see added targets next season.
