One Direction seemed to take the turbulence in stride whether it be surprise paternity for Louis Tomlinson, a cheeky parody video from Amy Schumer, or, most shockingly, the departure of band member Zayn Malik.

It’s no wonder that the boys felt the need for a break which is exactly what they’re taking starting today.

One Direction sang an emotional rendition of their song “History” that even got to notoriously tough judge Simon Cowell.

“Well, this takes me back five years ago when I met five guys, singing as solo artists, and then I never could have predicted what happened next. And I know you’re gonna take a break, you deserve the break. I want to really just take the chance now to say thank you. You’ve been an absolute pleasure to work with … Five of the nicest guys I ever met. Enjoy the time off. Have a fantastic time,” Cowell said.

The likes of James Corden, Robbie Williams, David Beckham and, oh yes, Danny DeVito rallied to bid One Direction farewell.

They’ll be the first to assure you that this is just a temporary break.

That’s what One Direction would have you believe.
