Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Brandon Wimbush and tight end Nic Weishar celebrate after a touchdown in the first quarter against the Temple Owls at Notre Dame Stadium.
SOUTH BEND – In a stacked tight end corps, it was the one with a “Dad bod” who stole the show in Notre Dame’s 49-16 win over Temple on Saturday.
It wasn’t any of the “Stallions,” as coach Brian Kelly calls them, but 6-4, 234-pound Nic Weishar who scored the group’s first touchdown of the season.
Quarterback Brandon Wimbush whipped a pass from 12 yards out, which Weishar dived to snatch with a defender on his back hip.
“Yeah, I get a couple dad bod jokes and t,” Weishar laughed, “But it’s all in fun.”
Maybe it’s a fluke that Weishar was the best of Notre Dame’s five-man tight end unit in Week 1.
The Irish set out to use their tight ends in the red zone, especially.
One of the best red-zone catches was by one of the most unlikely tight ends, on a throw that someone else might not have caught.
