Kolkata: The Sanskrit College and University will come up with a museum depicting old Kolkata, with its aristocracy and rich cultural history.

As the university campus is located on College Street popularly known as boipara, the history of this area will be given special emphasis in the proposed museum.

“People during those times used utensils made of bell metal and brass. This will be a part of the collection of the museum,” a senior official of the university said.

Follow a similar pattern in highlighting the nostalgia and culture of old Kolkata through the museum.

Vice-Chancellor of SCU Paula Banerjee said: “The history of College Street, the history of education in Bengal and the socio-economic lifestyle of the intellectuals during those time will come alive through the museum.”

The relation between the owners and tenants of old Kolkata, the transformation of the book shops in the college street area will be presented in information and replica format in the museum.

Some alumni of SCU have already contributed for the museum.
