With drummer Michael Lowry on the small stage, the rest of the band – including bassist William Cashion and Gerrit Welmers on electronics – got to work, letting Sam Herring do his moves and sing his heart out. It’s been 10 years since Future Islands gave its first concert at the Tiny Table. He performed four songs for the Tiny Table series “Quarantine.” Tiny Table will work from home in the near future. Its four members gatd near their base in Baltimore, at the Carroll Baldwin Memorial Hall, without an office. “We lost the office,” says lead singer Sam Herring with a smile. In addition to themes of loneliness and love, t are songs about race, the most obvious of which is “The Painter,” a song about how we can all look at the same thing and still see it differently. It’s the same feeling: empty scenes, intimate scenarios, but a different space. Songs from his sixth and most recent album, As Long As You Are. Check out Sam Herring and company. This song is clearly for head and feet.
