Mashup specialist Bill McClintock’s latest creation is called “I Can’t Get Closer for That” and combines vocals from Trent Reznor’s 1994 hit “The Downward Spiral” with the soundtrack and hook from Hall & Oates’ 1981 hit “Private Eyes.” In his previous mashups, McClintock has pitted Slipknot against the Spice Girls, Metallica against Huey Lewis, Motorhead against James Brown, Pantera against Bill Weathers and Danzig against Disco. Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer” is perhaps the epitome of sexy industrial rock. Another designer once mixed “I Can’t Go for That” with Metallica. “I decided against common sense to finish that song,” McClintock says. According to the description of his video, the mashup of NIN and Hall & Oates almost went too far. But don’t think the creator doesn’t have leeway when it comes to the song that he puts together.2021 Loudwire, Townsquare Media, Inc. It’s a funk.
