Nearly two months after news broke of the molestation scandal of Josh Duggar, TLC has canceled the reality show, 19 Kids and Counting of his family, the Associated Press reported July 16 , on Thursday.
“After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting. The show will no longer appear on the air,” the network said in an official statement, adding that “The recent attention around the Duggars has ignited a critical and significant conversation about child protection.”
TLC’s cancellation puts an end to months of speculation about the fate of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s famously large brood.
They Are planning to air an hour long documentary regarding the problem next month.
“Over these past weeks, TLC has consulted regularly with leading victims’ rights and advocacy organizations in the U.S., including RAINN and Darkness to Light, to discuss how to use this moment to address the problem and make a positive impact,” the statement continued.
“Sadly, child sexual abuse isn’t an isolated issue; it changes many children and families around the world. To that end, we’re partnering with both organizations on a multi platform effort to raise awareness and train families and parents about the problem. In the first stage of this initiative, TLC will work closely with both groups and with the Duggar family on a one-hour documentary that will comprise Jill and Jessa and other survivors and families that have been affected by maltreatment.”
The statement concluded: “TLC has been notably concerned for the victims in this situation, including the Duggar family, and it is our hope that this attempt will help those in need learn where to turn for advice and help. The documentary will probably be commercial free, and we anticipate it’ll air later this summer.”
Critics happen to be calling for 19 Kids’ cancellation for months now, but TLC had held off on making the decision, despite advertisers pulling their support for the show.
