Update: Jared Leto has confirmed his involvement in the upcoming Morbius movie by tweeting an image of the doctor-turned-vampire.

Jared Leto has reportedly been cast as Morbius, the Living Vampire in an upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film of the same name.

As reported by Variety, Jared Leto, known for his roles in Blade Runner 2049, Dallas Buyers Club, and as The Joker in Suicide Squad, is set to play the titular role in the upcoming Morbius movie.

Late last year it was reported that a Morbius film was in the works at Sony, and now it appears that this villain and anti-hero’s story is that much closer to hitting the silver screen.

The character, Dr. Michael Morbius, was originally created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, first appearing in 1963’s Amazing Spider-Man #101 with a host of vampiric powers.

Sony has been hard at work utilizing the Spider-Man IP, with the spinoff Silk being reportedly developed, and with Venom nearing its release in October.

Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sequel to last year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, is set to release next year as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Leto has acted in comic book adaptations before, specifically as the Joker in Suicide Squad. Earlier this month, it was reported that Leto is set to star in and produce his own Joker movie.
