In September of last year Beane made his last major public appearance at the Stacks Museum as part of the celebration of “The Masters of Soul Guitar. Beane, who had been hospitalized a few days earlier, performed his wheelchair, gave the “Walk On By” solo and played the “Brain Maggot” in Parliament. Born in Memphis, Beane made his first major discovery when he worked with the faithful Stax, William Bell, in the late 1960s. Last Saturday afternoon, the Stacks Museum replaced his tent in Beane’s honor. Unfortunately, we learned that the creator of this magic, a musician from the HAROLD BEANE session in Memphis, died last weekend at the age of 73. He met Bell when he was working at the recording store “Stax”. Recording takes only a few minutes and gives him more opportunities.
