American funk-rockers DNCE will headline Friday night at the Aug. 3-5 Summer in the Park festival.

Formed in the summer of 2015, DNCE, is fronted by Joe Jonas, a former Jonas Brothers member, and is well known for its song Cake by the Ocean.

Cementing them as one of 2016’s breakout acts, the band took home a win for Best Push Artist at the 2016 MTV European Music Awards and Best New Artist at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

A local opening act, along with two other opening night performers are expected to be revealed next week.

Acts for the second night of the festival will be announced at a later date.

Thomas Brown, co-chairman of the event, said organizers are hoping Friday night will be a sell-out, especially given the “Jonas factor” that DNCE brings.

Tickets for DNCE, starting at $40 plus HST and ticketing fees, go on sale starting April 6 at 9 am.
