Funnyman Chris Kattan isn’t laughing when it comes to the harrowing injury that has plagued him for the past 20 years.
The former “Saturday Night Live” star – who just recently got the boot on “Dancing with the Stars” – is opening up about his neck and back injuries that nearly left him paralyzed.
“It wasn’t until, maybe, two days later – when my arm started to atrophy – that I got checked out and the doctor told me that I’d broken my neck.”
Kattan, 46, would not reveal anything further about the injury, which he’s kept private for all these years and would only say it was a “Stunt thing.”
Chris Kattan, former ‘SNL’ star, gets probation for DUI. The comedian underwent at least four surgeries to try and fix his broken neck and ensuing back problems, but the pain persisted.
Kattan also made matters worse by hiding his injuries and returning to work just a few months after his first surgery.
“People started saying, ‘Chris, you don’t look very good,’ and ‘You look sick,’ and ‘Are you on drugs?’ and all these things. I just said, ‘I’m not. I’m doing okay, I’m fine.’ But I never told them what was really happening because I just wanted to be polite,” he told People.
The star later had bolts put in his back and the recovery from a second surgery proved to be even more difficult.
Kattan had been asked multiple times to join the reality dancing competition series, but was finally physically able to participate.
