Detroit rapper Big Sean has released three studio albums, which have all hit the top five on the charts, including No. 1 on the last album, Dark Sky Paradise, in 2015.

As he gets set to release I Decided tomorrow, Feb. 3, an album that has a strong shot to debut No 1, Sean also feels like he is hitting a creative peak.

This album is being treated as such, with multiple listening parties, his Saturday Night Live debut in January, a big appearance on Ellen that generated a lot of buzz and four pop-up shops this weekend, in Los Angeles, New York, Detroit and Toronto celebrating the album.

The rapper spoke with Monica Molinaro and I about the new album, the albums that changed his life and inspired him and why his hit single “Bounce Back” would be a good song for the Harry Potter series.

The concept of the album is really inspiring, so I’m just happy I got to execute it.

Big Sean: T are albums at different points in my life I feel like.

T are albums I just really loved, like DMX Flesh Of My Fresh, Blood Of My Blood, I loved that album growing up.

Big Sean: Yeah, for sure, that’s the whole concept of this album.

The whole story of the album is people went through their whole lives making all the wrong decisions and somehow get a chance to get it all right without knowing that, but just feeling the wisdom of their older self; it’s a real cool concept.
