The departure of Amanda Peterson, best known for her character in the 1987 romantic comedy “Can’t Buy Me Love,” was the result of an unintentional morphine overdose.

The autopsy and toxicology report released Wednesday by the Weld County Coroner’s Office concluded that Peterson, 43, ingested a friend’s morphine drug for unspecified pain weekly before her departure, The Greeley Tribune reports.

Doctors did not find recent morphine prescriptions for Peterson.

She had been prescribed multiple medications for lung and heart problems.

She was also prescribed Gabapentin after a recent hysterectomy.

The coroner’s office found high levels of Gabapentin in her body but reasoned Peterson died from respiratory depression as a result of a morphine overdose.

The Greeley, Colorado native was discovered dead July 5 at her apartment by herself.
