Matthew Kenter, a senior trombone player in the Mooresville High School band, will march through Pasadena, Calif., on Monday during the fabled Tournament of Roses Parade.
He will be part of the Bands of America Honor Band performing in the 5.5-mile parade that precedes the Rose Bowl football game.
The young musician has been a member of the Pride in Motion Marching Band at MHS for four years.
His mother said MHS Band Director Joshua Stevenson and Assistant Director Scott Mills talked with Kenter about auditioning for the Bands of America Honor Band at the beginning of the school year.
The honor band is under the direction of Bob Buckner, former director of the Western Carolina University “Pride of the Mountains” Marching Band – which received the prestigious Sudler Trophy in 2009 from the John Philip Sousa Foundation under his leadership -and a Bands of America Hall of Fame member.
Monday will mark the fourth time the honor band has performed in the Tournament of Roses Parade and the first time since 2013.
