The United States Women’s National Team will take on Japan in the closing of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Sunday, July 5 at 7 p.m. in Vancouver.
The USWNT will soon be looking to avenge their loss to Japan in the 2011 World Cup, a loss – the U.S. botched two leads, and then lost on penalty kicks – that still haunts the team.
The U.S. got payback by surpassing Japan for the Olympic gold medal in 2012, but nothing would compare to a World Cup title, which would be the state’s first since 1999 and third overall.
Will the 1999 U.S. World Cup team’s legacy live on?
