The freshman back made his return to the starting lineup after missing two games with an ankle injury, and he picked up right w he left off.

Barkley carried 26 times for 194 yards like the Nittany Lions’ offense for most of the night, couldn’t find the end zone.

Coach James Franklin said he was hopeful that Barkley would be back last weekend against Indiana, but that obviously the youngster played well in his return.

His best chance for a score came on a 44-yard scamper w Barkley flew around the right end of the defense and outran Buckeye defenders down the sideline.

The back would’ve given Penn State seven had t not been a yellow flag on the field nabbing Brian Gaia for holding.

“The penalties, especially the holding penalty that we had on the touchdown that got called back…Things that we can control. We have to go back and control the controllables.”

Dante Booker then brought him down immediately after, limiting the back to a gain of just five yards.

Barkley’s longest carry of the night came on a 56-yard run w he split two would-be tacklers at the line of scrimmage, went up the middle into a fray of defenders and then cut back outside.

“We have some of the best backs in the country,” offensive lineman Brendan Mahon said.
