LSU guard Josh Boutte is escorted off the field after he was ejected from the game against Wisconsin late in the fourth quarter.
No. 6 LSU’s season-opening loss to Wisconsin at Lambeau Field already was going to be a bad look for a team projected by many to reach the College Football Playoff.
Boutte, a senior, clotheslined Badgers junior safety D’Cota Dixon after Dixon sealed Wisconsin’s 16-14 win by intercepting LSU quarterback Brandon Harris with 57 seconds left to play.
Boutte was assessed a flagrant personal foul and ejected.
After the game LSU coach Les Miles said he didn’t realize Dixon had been down before the hit, and that, “He’s not a malicious guy.”
As a result of the ejection, Boutte will be suspended for LSU’s next game, at home Sept. 10 vs. Jacksonville State.
