A singer with Fentress County roots won praise for a duet on “American Idol” on Thursday night.
Kory Wheeler, who now lives in Nashville, performed Elton John’s classic “Bennie and the Jets” with past Idol contestant Haley Reinhart.
At the show’s close Wheeler was among the five singers not chosen by the judges to carry on.

He appeared on last season’s “American Idol” after producers called him to come audition.
