Photo David Gest, a concert promoter and television producer who gained fleeting fame for his brief marriage to Liza Minnelli and went on to become a reality television star in Britain, died on Tuesday in London.
Mr. Gest, a music-industry veteran, operated for most of his career behind the scenes, producing celebrity awards shows and concert tours featuring former soul-music greats.
Ms. Minnelli countersued, claiming that Mr. Gest had stolen at least $2 million she earned while performing in shows he produced.
Both dropped legal claims against each other to finalize their divorce in 2007.Mr. Gest later appeared in Britain as a judge on the entertainment series “Grease Is the Word” and the star of his own reality series in 2007, “This Is David Gest.”.

He wrote a memoir, “Simply the Gest,” published in 2007.Mr. Gest, who lived in York, is survived by his mother, the former Eleanor Berneger, and a sister, Barbara Gerber.
