Spike Lee says he will not use a song by Grammy winner Chrisette Michele in his upcoming Netflix series because she is performing at Donald Trump’s inaugural.

The outspoken director posted on Instagram that he was considering use of Michele’s “Black Girl Magic” in the series “She’s Gotta have It,” which will be based on his 1986 debut feature film.

Michele responded to Lee’s remarks in a posting on Twitter.

“I cry at the thought that Black History, American History might be in vain.”

“Today, I hope that Great Moments begin in peaceful & progressive conversation,” Michele added.

“I am willing to be a bridge. I don’t mind ‘These Stones’ if they allow me to be a voice for the voiceless.”

Michele was tapped for the inaugural on Wednesday after Andy Grammer backed out, according to Variety.

Her performance at the inaugural comes five months after she sang for President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and his wife Ho Ching, during a state dinner in the White House on Aug. 2, 2016, in Washington.
