Disney’s search for the new Han Solo has been whittled down to a shortlist of three actors, Taron Egerton, Alden Ehrenreich and Jack Reynor, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Egerton, 26, is best known for his performance as a teenage tearaway turned super spy in Matthew Vaughn’s blockbuster comic book riff Kingsman: The Secret Service.

The Welshman also takes the title role in biopic Eddie the Eagle, which has been drawing strong early reviews.

Ehrenreich, also 26, had not previously been named as a contender to replace Harrison Ford as the owner of the Millennium Falcon.

It seems likely a scene-stealing turn as a vowel-mangling western star in the Coen rothers’ new period romp Hail, Caesar! has catapulted the LA-born actor towards the top of Disney’s list.

Reynor, 24, is best known for playing a racing car driver in Transformers: Age of Extinction, but has also won acclaim for more intimate dramatic roles.

Disney has mounted one of the widest-ever casting searches to find the new Solo, meeting more than 2,500 actors.

Other names to have been previously shortlisted include Whiplash’s Miles Teller, The Fault in Our Stars’ Ansel Elgort and Brooklyn’s Emory Cohen.

Ford’s replacement will star as a younger version of the Corellian smuggler in a new Star Wars film from Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, which is being written by saga icon Lawrence Kasdan.
