According to Deadline, NBC has cast Ernie Hudson in the untitled pilot for the previously-announced Bad Boys spin-off TV series.

The show will star Gabrielle Union as Syd Burnett, reprising her role from Bad Boys II, with Hudson playing Joseph Burnett, Union’s father.

She’s partnered with Nancy McKenna, a working mom who can’t help but look at Syd’s freedom with some grass-is-greener envy.

The as-yet-untitled show is written by The Blacklist writers-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the Bad Boys movies, and Doug Belgrad, who worked on the franchise as well, will executive produce the series with Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.

Bad Boys II was released in theaters in 2003, a sequel to the 1995 original film, which went on to gross $273 million worldwide.

A third Bad Boys film, entitled Bad Boys for Life, was in the works but was moved off of Sony’s release schedule.
