COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State football program has signed Ohio offensive lineman Tyler Gerald as part of its recruiting class for National Signing Day 2016.

247Sports Rating: Gerald is a four-star prospect, rated the No. 8 guard and No. 162 overall prospect in the 2016 recruiting class by 247Sports.

Originally from Portsmouth, Ohio, Gerald is rated as the No. 25 player in Ohio for 2016.

What’s the deal? Ohio State was in on Gerald pretty early, getting a commitment from the Ohio product in June of 2014.

When he committed to the Buckeyes, Gerald was an unrated prospect, but since transferring to IMG Academy in Florida, he’s become one of the top offensive guards in the class.

How he fits into Ohio State’s plans: Ohio State has been heavy on offensive lineman in the last two recruiting classes, so by comparison only taking four in 2016 is a small number.

Projections for 2016: T is an open guard spot on the starting offensive line, but it’s highly unlikely Gerald would compete for that despite the fact that he’s already enrolled.
